About the Topic
Energy demand in India is growing rapidly with major implications for the global energy market. With a population of over 1.4 billion people, and a fast-growing economy, India has seen its energy demand increase rapidly as the country continues to urbanize and the manufacturing sector develops. This growing demand is met through various energy sources, with coal set to remain the largest source of energy supply, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). With the enormous needs and demands on energy, India is on track to become one of the most important players in the global energy market. Will India’s decision about how to source its energy impact its relations with the U.S., Russia, OPEC, and the general balance of power in the world? Might India also become an example of how developing countries can also implement sustainable energy sources as part of their permanent mix of energy supply?
