ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Marjorie Margolies is the founding president of the Women's Campaign International (WCI), which provides advocacy training to women in many countries, including Tanzania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sri Lanka, Namibia among others. She was a participant at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing as director of the United States delegation. For many years, Margolies was a journalist with NBC and its owned and operated stations in New York and Washington, DC. She was a contributing correspondent to the Today Show, Sunday Today, A Closer Look, CNBC, and Real Life with Jane Pauley. Her reporting has won numerous awards, including five Emmys. 

After her successful career in journalism, Margolies became the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Congress from Pennsylvania and the first Democrat to be elected from the 13th District since 1916. She served one term in Congress. 

Margolies is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and was a CBS News Foundation Fellow at Columbia University. She is currently teaching at the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania. Previously she taught at the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania where she taught “Women Leaders in Emerging Democracies” based on her work with WCI.
