About the Topic

Understanding media’s global impact requires looking beyond the headlines to examine how news organizations, digital platforms and social media shape public opinion, political discourse and international relations. The rapid spread of digital communication has expanded access to information while also increasing the dissemination of misinformation, disinformation and foreign influence campaigns. The challenges facing the media in investigative reporting, how analysis shapes and affects public opinion, and how media covers complex subjects are topics of high importance. Media organizations may reflect but also influence current events, issues and points of view. Audiences are more fragmented, user-generated news is more prevalent and AI is more influential. How do publishers establish and maintain a meaningful presence in the midst of the change and transformation?
