Keeping It Steady at the Center of the Indo-Pacific: THE PHILIPPINES’ ASEAN CHAIRSHIP IN 2026
Friday, March 6, 2026
1:00pm – 2:00pm EST
About the Event:
Please join the Foreign Policy Association for a timely discussion on ASEAN’s evolving role in the Indo-Pacific. We will be joined by H.E. Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, who will share the Philippines’ vision for its 2026 ASEAN Chairship under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together.”
Southeast Asia sits at the crossroads of major economic and political interests, and developments in the region increasingly resonate worldwide. For decades, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has provided a platform for dialogue, confidence-building, and the peaceful management of differences. As global connections deepen and strategic competition expands, ASEAN’s ability to sustain cooperation remains critically important.
Secretary Lazaro will discuss the Philippines’ priorities on peace and security, prosperity, and people empowerment, and explore how ASEAN engagement — including with the United States — can help maintain a stable, rules-based regional environment that supports shared growth across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
The lecture will begin promptly at 1:00pm.
