About the Event:
Please join the Foreign Policy Association and the SUNY Global Engagement Program for the Annual FPA/SUNY Global Engagement Speaker Series. This year, we will be joined by Amanda Klasing, National Director of Government Relations and Advocacy at Amnesty International USA. The event will be held on Thursday, November 6th, 2025 from 5:45 pm to 8:00 pm at the SUNY Global Center, located at 116 East 55th Street. The lecture will begin promptly at 6:00 pm.
The title of the lecture is “Rising to the Moment: Preparing Next-Gen World Affairs Experts During a Period of Human Rights Policy Retrenchment.”
The United States seems poised to undermine the multilateral system and norms it helped create to protect and advance human rights, though its rapid, chaotic and cruel attacks on foreign assistance, human rights expertise and programs, international bodies, and civil society. These attacks may embolden leaders who trample on human rights, but they have also further catalyzed communities focused on advancing global cooperation grounded in peace, stability and human rights. Join Amanda Klasing, National Director of Government Relations and Advocacy at Amnesty International USA, to learn more about the concerted efforts to dismantle human rights protections and programs, what can be done to stop it and why the news should not discourage, but catalyze, the next generation of world affairs experts to take action to realize a more rights-respecting future.
Please note that this event is free to attend for OTR members (and their guests)
