Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch (Ret.) is currently a senior fellow in the Russia and Eurasia program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Ambassador Yovanovitch has had a long and distinguished career in academia as well as in the U.S. Foreign Service serving most recently as Ambassador to Ukraine (2016-2019); the Republic of Armenia (2008-2011); and the Kyrgyz Republic (2005-2008). She is the author of the best-selling book, Lessons From The Edge: A Memoir. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright called the book, “A brilliant, engaging, and inspiring memoir from one of America’s wisest and most courageous diplomats—essential reading for current policymakers, aspiring public servants, and anyone who cares about America’s role in the world.” Ambassador Yovanovitch is a graduate of Princeton University where she earned a B.A. in history and Russian studies. She studied at the Moscow-based Pushkin State Russian Language Institute and received an M.S. from the National Defense University.
